People always ask me why i'm so in love with elephants and will defend them until i die. Here is why Elephants are worth fighting for. They are the largest mammal alive and extremely endangered, but what makes them extremely special is their ability to feel emotions. Much like humans elephants experience grieving, extreme happiness, love and sadness. They get very emotionally attached to their loved ones and will mourn over their dead carcasses for months. The birth of a baby elephant is one of the most happy occasions much like the joy humans have when holding their babies for the first time (I can imagine their excitement because they hold their 200 pound baby in them for 22 months until birth!

The bond between a mom and baby elephant is such a strong connection that it cant help, but to make you overwhelmingly happy.
This bond seems unbreakable and so genuine, but there's one thing that can rip apart this bond like no other: Poachers that lust for ivory. Over 25,000 elephants are killed each year for their tusks. The average elephant tusk is worth anywhere from $500-$5000 and a life of an elephant. Poachers don't even think about how they're taking away a mother from its baby, but yet the young elephant is still pulled away from its mom and loses one of its biggest supporters and nurturers.
